Immunotherapy
Since cervical cancer is a virus-induced disease, it makes sense to offer immunotherapy in the treatment. There is a strong rationale for using these treatments in cervical cancer.
Early studies were disappointing with low response rates and survival. However, these treatments have mainly been offered to patients with recurrent or metastatic disease with a poor prognosis.
Things are changing now with combinations of immuno-modulating drugs, in patients in a curative situation.
Many trials are currently underway, mainly in advanced forms, where immunotherapy is added to concomitant radio-chemotherapy + Brachytherapy, to increase its effectiveness.
We will have the results in 2 to 3 years.
