Mode of appearance
Breast cancer can be revealed in several ways:
- During a self-examination by the patient (observation of a lump, deformation of the breast, discharge from the nipple, inflammatory appearance of the skin, perception of a ganglion in the 'armpit). Each of these signs should seek immediate medical attention.
- During a systematic medical examination (inspection and palpation of the breasts and axillary lymph node areas). This systematic review is recommended for all women from the age of 25 (once a year). The doctor may notice a lump ("nodule"), breast deformity, discharge from the nipple, an inflammatory appearance of the skin, or perceive a lymph node in the armpit.
- During a screening mammogram, most often combined with an ultrasound. These exams can be done as part of organized screening, offered to women aged 50 to 74. The most frequent anomalies are the observation of a mass (opacity) and / or microcalcifications.
